PRODUCTION
Feeding the world in a sustainable way is one of our most pressing challenges in the coming decades. Meat plays a pivotal role in this. Global meat consumption has increased rapidly over the past 50 years – It has been estimated that global meat consumption may double from 2000 to 2050.
YOUR CHOICE
Do you know how many green house gases went into your plate?
EMISSION
Compared to the other food, the production of meat has large environmental impacts, among which, the most severe one is increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Meat takes much more grain, land and water to fatten an animal to produce a pound of meat than it does to grow the same number of calories in the form of grain that is eaten directly.
Everyone's diet matters to our planet.

High(er) Performance
A cooling system for building facade
Design phase: 10 weeks
Group work; Role: Designer, Prototyper
Toolkit: Rhino3d, Enscape, Adobe Suites,
Hands-on Prototyping
Challenge
There is an argument to be made for the recovery of natural systems in architecture that challenge 20th-century notions and modern practices of tight building envelopes and mechanically cooled buildings, regardless of the climate and context in which they are located. With the ubiquity of mechanical air-conditioning and market demand for fully-glazed building facades, the modern approach to architecture and building systems comes with high costs. Architects must consider introducing suitable materials adapted to local climatic conditions to offer innovative and viable solutions to conditioning spaces in and around buildings.
Solution
By disentombing traditional methods of construction and variable thermal comfort and by enhancing them with contemporary modes of design and fabrication, this research proposes an empirical study that suggests a return to designing naturally conditioned spaces to alleviate energy loads on buildings in cooling dominated climates. The results of this iterative process of discovery are the reliable production of lightweight ceramic units forming facades and partitions using minimal amounts of material. These facades are further enriched by performance-based tectonic assemblies that allow for effective thermodynamic characteristics and unique architectural expression.
